Councilor Folley was appointed to the Marco Island City Council on June 1, 2020, and was elected to that position in November of 2020.

He was elected again for a full, four year term in November 2022 and was selected by his peers as Chairman in December of 2022. He’s a proud veteran, a distinguished attorney, a proven executive and board member.

Prior to his career as an elected official, Greg served in all three branches of the federal government including the White House. He practiced labor and employment law with major firms for over a decade. Then, he went on to be Chief Human Resource Officer for Caterpillar Inc., an iconic global company with over 100,000 employees and the world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment and large engines. He also led some of the Company’s largest and most profitable divisions, finishing his career overseeing a division with over 10,000 employees in 18 states and 18 countries across the globe.

During his nine year tenure as a company officer at Caterpillar, Greg served as member of the Chairman’s Operating Council, whose members were responsible for setting the strategy of and running a multi-billion dollar business.

As an attorney, Greg managed outside counsel in labor and employment related litigation. He oversaw successful resolution to the largest interest arbitration in U.S. airline history. He is admitted to the State Bar Associations of Indiana, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Texas.

Greg currently serves as the Marco Island representative and Chair of the Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization, which is responsible for long-term highway and infrastructure planning for our county. Before moving to Florida, Greg served as Chairman of the Board for the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross. He helped deliver vital emergency services amidst catastrophic flooding and some of the most destructive tornadoes in the region’s history. He also served on the Boards of Catholic Charities and Eureka College. He attended Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame.

As a veteran, Greg was awarded honorable medical discharge from the U.S. Naval Academy. He had intended to attend flight school following graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and have a long career as a Naval or Marine Corps aviator. However, during his sophomore year at the Academy, Greg was twice hospitalized for the treatment of severe injuries suffered during training. Following his second hospitalization he was sent to Bethesda Naval Hospital and was diagnosed with Hemophilia B, a condition which disqualified him from further military service. He served on active duty from July 6, 1977 to Feb. 1, 1979.

Greg, who is married to his wife Margo and enjoys his role as father of 9, stepfather of two, and grandfather of 11, is also a parishioner at San Marco Catholic Church.
