PRESERVATION OF LIBERTY

My personal hero is Ronald Reagan, who I had the privilege to work for in the White House as a young man. One of his most important and memorable qualities is the following:

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.  We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream.  The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it, and then hand it to them with the well fought lessons of they in their lifetime must do the same.  And if you and I don’t do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free."

Today, freedom is under assault by an overreaching federal government and obedient media and tech structure more than at any time in our country’s history.  My first job as your representative is to preserve and protect the freedoms we have inherited from those who fought and died to preserve them for us.

2ND AMENDMENT/GUN RIGHTS

I salute Gov. DeSantis and the Legislature for bringing permitless carry to Florida. This is not

only in keeping with our Constitutional right to bear arms but also has been a proven deterrent to

crime. We must continue to press forward on this issue until Florida adopts a policy of open

carry.

BORDER SECURITY

Securing the border was once thought only to be a federal issue, but not anymore. Especially

under the Biden Administration, we have seen states including Florida overrun by human

trafficking, gang activity, and a fentanyl epidemic. These are plagues largely brought on by the

federal government’s failure to secure the border.

I will fight for more funding for our illegal immigration task forces and push for more

deportations of criminals. I also believe it to be appropriate for the Florida legislature to file suit

against the federal government for the expenses associated with housing illegal alien repeat

offenders in our jails and prisons.

GROWTH

As Florida has become synonymous with freedom, people are moving here from all over the

country and world. This is putting added pressure on our current infrastructure. Roads and

Bridges need to be planned for and built in advance of the population boom. I will work hard

with the Department of Transportation to find ways to secure speed and efficiency with our road-

building efforts. We have to keep our people moving in a way that preserves our quality of life.

As Gov. DeSantis has pointed out, we also have excellent ports in FL and should encourage shippers to use them more extensively—a means of reducing congestion on our roads and making trucking in our state more efficient.

LIFE

I am pro-life and appreciate the leadership that our governor has taken on this issue. Florida

should always be a state that respects the right to life for the elderly, the disabled, and the

unborn.

PARENTAL CONTROL IN EDUCATION

Our legislative leadership has introduced bills to keep gender identity and sexual education

from being presented to children without first informing and involving the parents. This is

commonsense and in keeping with the conservative view that parents and guardians should be in charge of their child’s education, especially on issues requiring spiritual and moral guidance.

PROPERTY INSURANCE

The cost of property insurance is going through the roof. In some cases, homeowners are having difficulties finding any policy at all. Solving this problem is going to require a meeting of the minds of various interests including the legal community, regulatory agencies, banks, and

insurance companies.

This is a complex issue, and I strongly applaud Gov. DeSantis and Rep. Bob Rommel for making lawsuit reform a priority. Over time, this should help keep insurance rates lower than they otherwise would have been, but we need to continue to find ways to improve the regulatory market so that more insurers are encouraged to come into Florida and bring competitive pressure to rates.

TAX CUTS

This past legislative session, the House and Senate passed one of the largest tax cut packages in the history of Florida. With that being said, there is more work to be done to continue to lower property taxes and phase out taxes on commercial real estate leases and a variety of fees.

If we keep Florida’s economy hot, then we will have more than enough to lower the tax burden on everyone and continue to fund important projects like new roads and bridges. I am proud to have been part of a city council that lowered the property tax millage rate for our taxpayers 4 straight times. In fact, Marco Island has one of the lowest millage rates in the state, and rates are down 17.8% since I took office on the City Council.

WATER

As a city councilman, we have been working hard to find common sense solutions to preserve our water supply and our natural resources. Improving tidal water flows and reducing fertilizer and nutrient runoff into our canals and waterways is critical to maintaining the ecosystems that surround us. Also, as our state continues to grow, I believe that we need to continue to pursue state-funded water desalination infrastructure so that we can more ably meet drinking water needs for coastal communities.

SUPPORT OF POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS

I am a strong supporter of our FL police officers and firefighters.  I want to make sure they have the tools and legal support to do their jobs of protecting everyone in our great State, citizens and visitors alike.  As a Councilor on Marco Island, I have worked to increase pay to competitive rates for our firefighters and police officers while driving pension reform which ensures that our benefits are competitive and sustainable.
