FROM THE DESK OF VICE CHAIR GREG FOLLEY Friends & Supporters, Merry Christmas Marco Islanders! Here’s your December update on the progress of your City Council! NEW City Councilor Congratulations Councilor Claire Babrowski! She was selected to fill the remaining two years of Councilor Rios’ term, who resigned in October. Councilor Babrowski’s years of executive experience, knowledge of the community, and work on the Planning Board led the Council to select her on the first ballot. I am pleased to welcome her as our newest colleague. Volunteers Wanted Multiple vacancies are being filled for the Boards and Committees that advise the City Council. Therefore, we’re seeking volunteers to serve on the following: Planning Board Waterways Advisory Committee Beautification Advisory Committee Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee Applications may be submitted online or sent to City Hall, 50 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island, FL 34145. The deadline for applications is December 28. For more information, please contact City Clerk Laura Litzan at (239) 389-5010. Mackle Park Update The Council was pleased to approve a staff recommendation to insource janitorial services for Frank E. Mackle Park. This will result in a higher level of service, cleaner facilities, and an overall annual savings to taxpayers of $25,560.00. I’m encouraged that our City Manager has designated someone to look for cost reductions and synergies within the city budget. I expect to see many more such recommendations in the next few months. Town Hall Meeting Finally, the Council met for a workshop to review progress on the City’s Comprehensive Plan. A Town Hall Meeting on the Comprehensive Plan will be held this Saturday, December 12 at Mackle Park. There will be two sessions at 9:30am and 10:30am. Dr. Margaret Banyan with Florida Gulf Coast University and the Consultant Team will lead a brief overview of the Plan. This is a wonderful opportunity to provide your feedback.
